All too soon, we were back already in our respective homes, *sigh* after spending a hectic, enjoyable but exhilarating rendezvous weekend in Kampar with classmates of 1962. It was our 6th gathering since 2007.
Host Tham Leong and Annie went out of their way to make it happen.
We started arriving in Kampar on sat. By evening the total number assembled at Kam Ling for dinner was 34 people. That was an encouraging figure.
Saturday morning at 10 am was a visit to Gua Temperung. Chow time at the hawker food centre followed by a tour of Utar.
We (Kuan Eng Seong, Poon Juay Cheow and myself) arrived late noon for High Tea at the church premises and a presentation on health matters by Dr. Bobby Lim Peng Swee. (One of our brightest stars of 1962)
Medical issues was obviously a subject close to everybody's heart and naturally it became a lively session of Qs and As by all present.
Well it was an insightful presentation of the dangers of statin drugs (cholesterol lowering drug) Taken over a period would cause muscle weakness( chronic inflammation) and cognitive problems.
But the bottom line is what would be the status of my health if I don't take the ubat as instructed and prescribed?? My doctor would certainly wash his hands if I stopped taking it.
Coenzyme Q10 was the affirmative answer. My fears are real coz I have been on statin for a number of years now.
However Bobby did try to allay our fears, anxiety, misgivings and suspicions about the c0ntroversial health drugs of today.
I am not being paranoid. But i guess its better to be safe than sorry.I have muscle aches and weakness for sometime now. I fear the worst.
Sorry I digressed. *Hehe* Sumptuous dinner was at Kam Ling, Kampar where we ate, shouted, sang our hearts out and screamed ourselves hoarse to the discomfiture of other diners. But who cares?. It was our night! A roaring dinner and we enjoyed and lapped it all up...the food, the ambiance and most of all the company of 'long lost friends.'
'Special mention' is due, to Lim lay Jin and Fam Hong Lim , 2 ladies from our alma mater who took the trouble and pain to be with us, coming from Penang and Ipoh respectively.Furthest way was Ronald Kuan and Julie, all the way from Singapore.
The next day we were treated to lunch at the hawker centre in town, 'ngau lam fun' and so many other giddy choices that made Kampar famous.
By 1pm we parted and said adieu.
Note:I hope other classmates out there, heed our call to come together just to shake hands, wish each other well, to say Hello and Goodbye. No agenda, no ulterior motives.
We classmates have a close bond like no other although the years we spent together were brief. But those were the best years of our lives. How can we ever forget? Can you?? I wonder.
Our lives are coming to a full circle and time is of the essence. We just want to fellowship with you...Now or maybe never. I rest my case. Over to you.
